Under the leadership of founding coach John Shimp, the Eclipse girls youth soccer team formed in the summer of 1999 with the Woodstown United Soccer Club, as the South Jersey Eclipse. In the fall of 2003, the Eclipse moved their club affiliation to the
Woodstown Soccer Club. For league competition, the Eclipse have competed in the
South Jersey Girls Soccer League (SJGSL) where they captured league championships in the 2000, 2001, 2003, 2006, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2018 seasons.
The Eclipse have had much success in statewide competitions. In just their first year, the Eclipse advanced to the quarterfinals of the
New Jersey Youth Soccer (NJYS) Kellogg's Bowl U14 tournament in the spring of 2000. They made it to the finals of the NJYS National Championship tournament in 2011, the semi finals twice (2006, 2007) and the quarterfinals twice (2005, 2009).
In the fall of 2007, the Eclipse organization fielded two teams (U17 and U18) for the first time.
In the fall of 2019, after 20 years in Woodstown, the Eclipse moved their club affiliation to the
Pitman Soccer Association.
At last count, at least sixty eight former Eclipse players have gone on to play soccer at the college level.
The Eclipse last fielded a team during the 2021-2022 season.
